Pinellas County Beaches: A Brief History
Founded January 1st 1912, Pinellas county was originally created from residents that succeeded from Hillsborough county ( known now more famously as the home of Tampa). Starting in the early 20th century, as transportation and infrastructure became more reliable tourists began slowly acknowledging the beauty of Pinellas counties’ beaches.
In 1954, the opening of the Sunshine Skyway Bridge marked a new era for the beaches of Pinellas. By 1957, Clearwater was the fastest growing city in America.
Fast forward to today: many of the beaches of Pinellas County are regarded as some of the best in the world. With Clearwater Beach Specifically winning best in the United States in 2018, 2019, and 2021!
